Allied Health and Physical Education at Black Hawk College offers a variety of health career programs. Whether you are interested in an eight-week course preparing for almost immediate employment or in a two-year degree program, there is a program to meet all needs.
Facilities
The Health Sciences Center at the Quad-Cities Campus is a three-story facility that encompasses 46,300 square feet and has eight labs, two classrooms, a 64-seat lecture hall, two conference rooms and faculty offices.
Internships
Internships allow you to apply the knowledge you are developing in the classroom while contributing to real-world situations. All students in the Health Information Management program must complete an internship of 240 hours at the end of their course of study which prepares students for employment and frequently leads to job opportunities after completion.
Be a part of a fast-growing career field
Employment of emergency medical technicians, health information management professionals, medical records specialists, physical therapist assistants and surgical technologists is expected to grow much faster than average for most occupations through 2024. As the population ages, the demand for all medical fields continues to grow quickly.

Programs AND HIGHLIGHTS
Opportunities for health career program graduates are limitless. You may be employed in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, physicians’ or dentists’ offices, or a number of community agencies. In many instances, completion of a health career program at Black Hawk College provides the foundation for further education in this large and exciting field.
Transfer programs
If you plan to transfer to a four-year institution, you can earn an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree.
Career programs
If you plan to go right into the workforce after graduation, you can earn a certificate or Associate in Applied Science degree by enrolling in one of the career programs offered through the department.
