For residents of the Black Hawk College district who are non-English-speaking adults, 17 years of age or older. Sixteen-year-old students may enroll with parental and secondary school district permission.
Students develop English language skills to:
- Participate in American society
- Enter employment
- Advance in the workplace
- Enroll in a training program or the Academic ESL Program
- Be successful in the citizenship process
ESL Program levels of instruction
Levels help non-English speaking students build and attain language skills using an integrated approach to learning. The skills of listening, speaking, grammar, reading and writing are taught, as well as general aspects of American culture and civics. New students are tested to ensure placement accuracy.
Qualifying students attend classes without cost.
