Two members of the Phi Theta Kappa chapter at the Quad-Cities Campus recently were recognized at PTK Catalyst 2024, the honor society’s national convention.

Alexa Mahoney – a 2019 Black Hawk College graduate and 2021 Northern Illinois University graduate – was inducted into the PTK Alumni Hall of Honor. The former Quad-Cities Campus chapter officer was nominated for helping the chapter since her BHC graduation. She’s spoken at several induction ceremonies and worked with members to help edit their PTK project submissions.

Current BHC student and chapter officer Herbert Berko’s entry, “The Therapeutic Power of Play in Treating PTSD,” was one of four winners of the 2023 Honors Case Study Challenge. Berko received a $500 scholarship.

The Quad-Cities Campus chapter is proud of both of these members’ achievements and was excited to watch them in the Parade of Scholars at the national convention.

The chapter officer team of Herbert Berko, Michelle Frerich, Akos Tiwa and Ashton Woulf as well as chapter advisors Nicole Banks and Dr. Amy Maxeiner, and alumni member Alexa Mahoney attended the national convention April 4-7 in Orlando, FL.
