The Black Hawk College community mourns the death of Mary Davis, head coach of the Braves women’s volleyball team at the Quad-Cities Campus.

Mary played for the Braves from 1983-85. She was the Braves’ assistant coach from 1986-90 before taking over the head coaching position in 1991. She was inducted into the Black Hawk College Wall of Fame in 2010 and the NJCAA Region IV Hall of Fame in 2016 and had a career record of 512-470.

But more important than wins, Mary made an impact on her student athletes that they will carry throughout their lives. Mary played hard but had a very kind heart. She will be missed.

In Spring 2017, two players were honored by the NJCAA for their academic accomplishments during the 2016-17 school year:

  • NJCAA All-Academic First Team (4.0 GPA) — Megan Groves of Port Byron
  • NJCAA All-Academic Second Team (3.80-3.99 GPA) — Hannah Terrill of Durant, IA – 3.87 GPA

The team won an NJCAA Team Academic Award for having a team GPA of 3.22 for the 2016-17 school year.
