Congratulations on your graduation!

All graduates must complete the Black Hawk College Graduation Application. Financial obligations to BHC must be fulfilled before your diploma or transcripts will be issued.

Graduation Application 2017-2018

Graduation Calendar – Academic Year 2016-17

March 31, 2017 – Last day for spring and summer 2017 students to file a Black Hawk College Application for Graduation. Students who would like to participate in spring commencement ceremonies will be charged a $20 non-refundable ceremony participation fee on their account. Students who turn in graduation applications after this date will not have their names listed in the spring 2017 commencement program.

May 10 – Caps and gowns available in lobby outside the Hawk’s Hub at the Quad-Cities Campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

May 10-15 – Caps and gowns available in the Enrollment Services Office at both the East Campus and the Quad-Cities Campus.

May 17 – Quad-Cities Campus Commencement at iWireless Center. Rehearsal at noon. Ceremony at 7 p.m.

May 19 – East Campus Commencement at the Kewanee National Guard Armory. Rehearsal at 9 a.m. Ceremony at 7 p.m.

Diplomas will be mailed to spring graduates approximately 6-8 weeks after the last date of the term in which academic work was completed.

The graduation date for summer candidates is in July. However, certain programs have a completion date in August and in these cases, the last date of academic work will be used as students’ graduation date. Students with degree completion dates after the start of the fall 2017 semester will have graduation dates in December.

Graduation Honors
Honors are based upon your GPA at the end of the fall semester and the number of semester hours enrolled in through the spring semester since final grades aren’t available until after commencement.

Summa Cum Laude: 60 hours of graded work at Black Hawk College with a cumulative 3.95 grade point average.
Magna Cum Laude: 45 hours of graded work at Black Hawk College with a cumulative 3.85 grade point average.
Cum Laude: 30 hours of graded work at Black Hawk College with a cumulative 3.75 grade point average.
Official graduation honors noted on the diploma and academic record will be determined when the degree requirements are completed.Only associate degree candidates qualify for graduation honors.
Honor societies (You will receive more information through your chapters.):
Phi Theta Kappa: If you are a member of Phi Theta Kappa, you will be eligible to wear a Phi Theta Kappa stole and/or tassel.
Psi Beta: If you are a member of Psi Beta, you will be eligible to wear a Psi Beta cord.
Alpha Beta Gamma: If you are a member of Alpha Beta Gamma, you will be eligible to wear an Alpha Beta Gamma stole.
