Graduation & Commencement

2022 Commencement Ceremonies

  • Quad-Cities Campus – Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 7 p.m. at the TaxSlayer Center in Moline, IL.
  • East Campus – Friday, May 20, 2022, at the Illinois National Guard Armory in Kewanee, IL. In order to comply with COVID-19 restrictions, the East Campus will have two small ceremonies at 10 a.m.* and 2 p.m.* Graduates will be divided by program (see below).

Masks are optional but encouraged. Guests are asked to please sit with social distancing between groups.

The TaxSlayer Center has a no bag policy. Bags are not permitted in the arena with the exception of a small 5″ x 7″ x 1″ clutch purse, a small diaper bag if entering with an infant, camera bags and medically required bags. Any purse or bag larger than 5″ x 7″ x 1″ will need to be returned to your vehicle or checked in at Guest Services. All bags/purses entering the building are subject to being opened and a visual search.

All TaxSlayer Center guests and attendees will be required to enter through entrances with walk-through metal detectors.

*Tickets will be required for both East Campus ceremonies. East Campus graduates will be limited to six (6) tickets each. Graduates will receive their tickets when they pick up their cap and gown. Tickets are not needed for the Quad-Cities Campus ceremony.

East Campus ceremonies will be:

10 a.m. – Associate in Applied Science degrees and career certificates

  • Examples: Accounting (AAS), Agribusiness Management (AAS), Agriculture Production (animal science, beef and swine certificates), Agriculture Production Technology (AAS), Business (AAS), Equestrian Science (AAS), General Occupational & Technical Studies (GOTS), Horse Science Technology (AAS and certificate), Medical Assisting (certificate), Veterinary Assisting (certificate), Veterinary Technology (AAS) and Welding (certificate)

2 p.m. – Transfer degrees

  • Examples: Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Associate in Science – Ag Transfer

Graduation Application

All graduates must complete the Black Hawk College Graduation Application. Financial obligations to BHC must be fulfilled before your diploma or transcripts will be issued.

*Due no later than March 17, 2023.

Final audits will take place and diplomas will be mailed within eight weeks after the end date of the term in which academic work was completed.

The graduation date for summer candidates is in July. However, certain programs have a completion date in August and in these cases, the last date of academic work will be used as students’ graduation date. Students with degree completion dates after the start of the fall semester will have graduation dates in December.

Graduation Honors

Honors are based upon your GPA at the end of the fall semester and the number of semester hours enrolled in through the spring semester since final grades aren’t available until after commencement.

Summa Cum Laude: 60 hours of graded work at Black Hawk College with a cumulative 3.95 grade point average or higher.
Magna Cum Laude: 45 hours of graded work at Black Hawk College with a cumulative 3.85 grade point average or higher.
Cum Laude: 30 hours of graded work at Black Hawk College with a cumulative 3.75 grade point average or higher.

Official graduation honors noted on the diploma and academic record will be determined when the degree requirements are completed. Only associate degree candidates qualify for graduation honors.

Honor societies

You will receive more information through your chapters:

Alpha Beta Gamma: If you are a member of Alpha Beta Gamma, you will be eligible to wear an Alpha Beta Gamma stole.
Phi Theta Kappa: If you are a member of Phi Theta Kappa, you will be eligible to wear a Phi Theta Kappa stole and/or tassel.
Psi Beta: If you are a member of Psi Beta, you will be eligible to wear a Psi Beta cord.
Sigma Kappa Delta: If you are a member of Sigma Beta Gamma, you will be eligible to wear a Sigma Kappa Delta cord.
