Loans

Students must submit the FAFSA before requesting a federal student loan. Borrowing should be limited to necessary educational expenses, as loans must be repaid.


STUDENT LOAN

To request a Federal Direct Student Loan, students must complete the following:

  1. Black Hawk College Loan Application. Login with your MyBlackHawk username and password.
  2. Entrance Counseling. First time borrowers only.
  3. Master Promissory Note (MPN). First time borrowers at Black Hawk College only.
  4. Enroll. Students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester.
  5. Submit official transcripts. Students who have previously borrowed loans at another college and are applying for their first loan at Black Hawk College must submit prior college transcripts for evaluation.

Application Processing

Please allow two weeks for application processing – applications will be processed in the order they are received. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Status updates will be sent to your myBlackHawk email.

Processing times may be extended to three or more weeks during peak registration times (July, December, May).

PARENT PLUS LOAN

For a parent to apply for a Federal Parent PLUS Loan, their student must complete the FAFSA and enroll in at least six credit hours per semester. Parents must complete the following:

  1. Federal Parent PLUS Loan Application.
  2. Black Hawk College Parent Loan Application.
  3. Master Promissory Note (MPN). First time borrowers only.
  4. Enroll. Students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours per semester for the parent to qualify for a PLUS Loan.

Application Processing

Please allow two weeks for application processing – applications will be processed in the order they are received. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Status updates will be sent to the parent’s personal email address provided on the PLUS Loan application.

Processing times may be extended to three or more weeks during peak registration times (July, December, May).
