Celebrate National Transfer Student Week 2019

Black Hawk College is celebrating National Transfer Student Week (Oct. 18-25, 2019) with a packed calendar!

Before we get into the activities, though, let’s talk about transferring: Black Hawk College is a great place to earn the first half of your bachelor’s degree.

There are several associate degree options available and plenty of resources available to help make your transfer plans successful.

In addition to offering a great education, Black Hawk College is also an affordable option to earn your associate degree close to home.

We’re kicking National Transfer Student Week off with a busy Friday, Oct. 18! Free BHC Application Day means you can apply at no cost at both campuses and online (use code FREEAPP).

At the East Campus, you can visit with transfer colleges and universities during the Transfer Fair in Building A in the Game Room.

At the Quad-Cities Campus, prospective students can visit during Explore BHC Day.

Get help locating transcripts from Oct. 21-25 as you prepare to transfer at the Quad-Cities Campus Advising Center.

Also throughout the week, share your story or post about events with the hashtag #TransferStudentWeek.

On Tuesday, Oct. 22, you can spend the day with Augustana College, St. Ambrose University and Western Illinois University at the Quad-Cities Campus.

Transfer planning appointments for current BHC students are available that morning. Call advising at 309-796-5100 or email ADVQC@bhc.edu to make an appointment. Advisors recommend that students making appointments have 24 or more college credits completed at the end of this term.

Then, lunch will be served for students curious about transferring to Augie, SAU and WIU during a Gab and Grub event. You can visit with representatives and BHC alumni from these schools and enjoy lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the upper lobby of Building 1.

Following that, a Transfer Panel will run from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in Building 1, Room 302. This will feature representatives from Augie, SAU and WIU and BHC alumni.

Attend to learn about:

  • Funding Your Junior and Senior Years
  • Housing and Other Essentials
  • Joining the Campus Community

There will also be presentations Wednesday, Oct. 23 in Building 4 in the Restaurant room adjacent to the Hawk’s Nest.

Presentations include:

  • Funding Your Junior and Senior Years, 11 a.m. to noon, with Augustana College
  • Computational Math: A Hot New Transfer Major, noon to 1 p.m., with Western Illinois University
  • Opportunities in Social Work, 1-2 p.m., with St. Ambrose University

If you attend the Transfer Panel or a presentation, you will receive a coupon for 30% off BHC clothing in the Hawk’s Hub.

You can use your coupon to pick up something for Alma Mater Day, on Thursday, Oct. 24 when the campus community is encouraged to wear gear from BHC or any other college of university attended!

Start here, transfer anywhere

National Transfer Student Week was created by The National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students.

About 130 transfer guides and agreements are also in place covering programs from accounting to technical resource management with more than 20 four-year colleges and universities.

While many BHC students opt to transfer to Midwestern schools, we can work with students to help them transfer anywhere.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to your advisor at any time, no matter where you are in the transfer process.

Black Hawk College can help you investigate majors, admission requirements and more as you work on deciding the best transfer approach for you.

If you know what path you are taking, but just want to check in to make sure you’re still on the right track, we’re here for that, too!
