A New Face for the Braves

Born in a dark forest, the night Beacon the Brave was born unlike any other. A bright moon and countless stars covered the sky, which lit up the forest in a way no one had ever witnessed before. Beacon’s parents took it as a sign that their child would become a beacon of hope and light for the next generation.

Years later, on a night darker than usual, Beacon recognized an even brighter guiding light shining in the distance. Their intuition said to follow it, and they were led to Black Hawk College. Both locations shined brightly with education, perseverance, opportunity and diversity from its students.

Today, Beacon glows above both campuses, reminding every Brave that no matter where they come from or what obstacles they carry, each has the opportunity to grow, succeed and be a light to others in the darkest of times.

Born amongst the forest near rumbling volcanoes, where every challenge was met with perseverance instead of fear, Blaze the Brave was born. Blaze always burned with determination and passion, and they never backed down from hard work or difficult obstacles.

Blaze is the fastest of all the Braves in the forest, passionate about building a community, and finding the highest perch to admire the fiery bright red and orange trees.

When looking for a new place to call home, Blaze discovered Black Hawk College and recognized the same fire among its students, who were balancing jobs, families, athletics and academics while pursuing while chasing ambitious goals.

From cheering on the sidelines to offering high fives to hyping students up in the hallways, Blaze spreads their passion for their perch across campus and encourages every Brave to keep that fire within them to prove that success isn’t about avoiding failure, but to never let the fire burn out.

Bravo the Brave was born into a family that believes in celebrating every accomplishment. Bravo is brilliant, talented and masterful hyper-upper.

When Bravo grew up and was searching for a community beyond the forest, it was important to find one that celebrated each other’s wins, no matter how big or small.

While searching, Bravo landed at Black Hawk College and immediately recognized students, faculty, and staff’s commitment to academics, athletics and arts. They also observed a supportive and uplifting community across every range and corner of achievement.

Bravo immerses themselves in student activities and encourages students, faculty and staff every step of the way. They believe everyone is a leader in their own way, focusing on their strengths and how they can keep building a strengthened community.

Today, you can find Bravo giving standing ovations at student events and cheering loudly at athletic games, being a part of the Braves’ flock.

No. The Black Hawk College Braves name, logos and identity are not changing. This project introduces a new mascot costume and official mascot program.

The winning name and mascot will be revealed live at the 80th Anniversary Celebration on Sept. 10. We’ll also share the news on social media and our website.

Like many college mascots across the country, the Black Hawk College Brave will have its own character name to help create a fun, recognizable personality while continuing to represent the Black Hawk College Braves.
