Scholarships
There are many ways to find scholarships funds for Black Hawk College students. One of the best is through the Black Hawk College Foundations. We also offer academic and athletic achievement awards specifically for BHC students and can recommend other sources.
Black Hawk College Foundations Scholarships
The Black Hawk College Foundations have more than 200 scholarships available to full or part-time students. Scholarship opportunities are based on academic performance, financial need and/or area of study. Benefit from the generosity of the many individuals and organizations who believe in your education.
Application
Students complete the same application whether they are enrolling at the Quad-Cities Campus or East Campus. There are two opportunities to submit the 2027-28 Foundation Scholarship Application:
- Priority Application (Oct. 2 – Nov. 16, 2026): Be considered for the greatest number of scholarship opportunities.
- Regular Application (Jan. 15 – March 15, 2027): Be considered for additional scholarship opportunities that remain available.
Note: Applications submitted but not selected during the Priority Application period will automatically be considered during the Regular Application period.
East Campus CNA Scholarships
The Black Hawk College East Foundation offers two $500 CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) scholarships available for students enrolling in the program at the Black Hawk College Community Education Center in Kewanee.
IBT Scholarship
The IBT Scholarship is awarded to high-achieving students and students in need of barrier assistance entering Basic Nurse Assistant, Patient Care Assistant, and Practical Nursing Programs. To be eligible, students must have entered a program after completing Adult Education programs (GED, ESL) or Dual Credit courses. Students may also be eligible if they have completed a Basic Nurse Assistant or Patient Care Assistant program, and plan to enroll in Practical Nursing or Associate Degree Nursing programs.
BHC Presidential Scholars
In-district high school seniors in the top 10% of their graduating class at the end of seven semesters are eligible for the Black Hawk College Presidential Scholars Award. For early graduates (after 3½ years), class rank after six semesters will be used.
You must have attended a public high school or an Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) recognized private high school within the Illinois Community College District #503 to qualify.

Qualifying students will receive a packet in the spring and must accept by June 15. Presidential Scholars must enroll full time the fall semester immediately following high school graduation. Summer enrollment immediately following high school graduation is not covered by the Presidential Scholarship. Scholars must maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA and be enrolled full time to renew the scholarship.
BHC Department-based Scholarships
Several academic departments and athletic teams offer tuition awards to talented students. Students are required to enroll full-time and maintain the requirements of the department. Awards are based on credit hours up to 16 credit hours per semester. An administration fee of $30 per credit hour will be assessed.
Academic Department Scholarships
Several scholarships are available for students entering into a specific major or program. Application details and eligibility can be found on each respective program’s department page. A program’s department is listed at the top of each page. Associate degrees often relate to more than one academic department.
Private Scholarships
Scholarship checks should be made payable to Black Hawk College and can be mailed to the Financial Aid Office for processing.
- If both the student and the college are listed as payees, endorse the check before submitting it.
- If only the student is listed as the payee, endorse the check before submitting it.
Be sure to include your name and BHC ID number.
