Veterans

Veterans and their families should talk with the Veterans and Military Personnel Student Services representative in the Financial Aid Office about possible educational benefits.  Benefits are available through the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC).

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) commit the Financial Aid Office to helping veterans obtain educational benefits through a variety of programs offered.

Post 9/11 GI BILL (Chapter 33) »
Post 9/11 GI BILL (Chapter 33) – For individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after Sept. 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill. This benefit provides up to 36 months of education benefits, generally benefits are payable for 15 years following your release from active duty.
Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30) – Active Duty »
Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30) – Active Duty, called “MGIB” for short, the MGIB program provides up to 36 months of education benefits. This benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs. Remedial, deficiency, and refresher course may be approved under certain circumstances. Generally, benefits are payable for 10 years following your release from active duty. This program is known as Chapter 30.
Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 1606) – Selected Reserve »
Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 1606) – Selected Reserve program may be available to you if you are a member of the Selected Reserve. The Selected Reserve includes Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard and Air National Guard. You may use this education assistance program for degree programs and certificate programs. Remedial, refresher and deficiency training are available under certain circumstances.
Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 1607) – Selected Reserve/active duty »
Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 1607) – Selected Reserve/active duty is available to reserves who serve on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001 for a contingency operation and who serve at least 90 consecutive days or more. Benefits are a percentage of the Chapter 30 three-year rate based on the number of continuous days served on active duty.
Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 35) »
Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 35) – Dependents Education Assistance is available to certain dependents and spouses of veterans who were declared by Veterans Affairs to have a 100% service connected disability or who were POW/MIA.
Illinois National Guard (NG) »
Illinois National Guard (NG) – National Guard Grant Application
This program provides payment of tuition and certain fees at an Illinois public two- or four-year college or university. The grant is available to enlistees who have served one year of active duty and are currently in active duty status. You are not required to enroll for a minimum number of credit hours.
Illinois Veteran Grant (IVG) »
Illinois Veteran Grant (IVG) – Illinois Veteran Grant Application
This program provides payment of tuition and certain fees at an Illinois public two- or four-year college or university. The grant is available to qualified Illinois veterans or military service members with at least one year of active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces and who have served honorably. Veterans must have been residents of Illinois six months prior to entering the services and must have returned to Illinois to reside within six months of leaving the service. You are not required to enroll for a minimum number of credit hours.
Illinois POW/MIA Grant »
Illinois POW/MIA Grant – MIA/POW Application
Veterans who were declared 100% disabled by Veterans Affairs or were a POW/MIA and an Illinois resident, their dependents or spouse could receive 100% tuition assistance.
