Frequently Asked Questions

Will this funding run out?

Yes, funding is limited. The college only has access to these funds for a set period of time, and there’s no guarantee the grant will be offered every year. Awards are given on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are gone.

If I apply, will I automatically receive the grant?

No. Each application is reviewed individually, and submitting an application does not guarantee you’ll receive funding.

Can the WEI grant cover prerequisite courses?

No. The WEI grant only covers coursework required after you have been officially admitted into an eligible program. Prerequisite courses taken before program admission are not eligible for WEI funding.

About the Grant

The Workforce Empowerment Initiative (WEI) is a statewide grant program that began in 2019. It focuses on expanding training opportunities for individuals of poverty from distressed communities in Illinois.

WEI funding helps colleges develop new student services, in-demand training programs, outreach efforts and community partners to serve those students.
