Adults who are taking Black Hawk College classes to learn English or earn their high school diploma or GED® will be able to simultaneously enroll in welding classes thanks to a new grant.

The ESL, Languages, Humanities, Philosophy & Speech department offers a variety of courses that will satisfy general education or elective requirements at four-year institutions.

The Adult Learning Center in Rock Island, Illinois is a satellite location for Black Hawk College. Offerings include GED and ESL classes.

This program is for residents of the Black Hawk College district who have limited English or who are non-English-speaking adults, 17 years of age or older.

Since 1991, Black Hawk College has served more than 1,000 English learners from around the world in our Academic ESL Program.

Black Hawk College’s Adult Literacy Program seeks volunteer tutors to provide one-on-one or group instruction in reading, writing and English language skills to adult learners enrolled in ESL and GED classes. Volunteers can choose convenient teaching times, with morning and evening slots available Monday through Friday, accommodating both working and retired individuals. The program offers specialized training, access to resource materials, and ongoing support to help tutors develop their instructional skills.
