For Hispanic Heritage Month, Black Hawk College honors and celebrates all of our Hispanic students, staff, faculty and alumni. Explore these spotlight stories from across our campus community.
Jesus Victoria is a second-year student at Black Hawk College Quad-Cities Campus. He serves as president of the esports club and works as a student worker in the ITS department.
In high school computer class, he used the LEGO Builder app, and his uncle works in the ITS industry, which strengthened his interest in technology. After graduation, he plans to pursue a career in ITS.
His uncle not only inspired him to work in ITS, but also to reach for the stars.
“My uncle is really disciplined,” Jesus said.
“He always encourages me to push myself and to do things I wouldn’t normally do. I never wanted a leadership role but look at me now.”
For Hispanic students, Jesus encourages them to take those big steps too.
“Join the first club you have any interest in. If you’re new around town, everyone’s friendly around here, so you should have no trouble fitting in.”
“There are a lot of Hispanics in the Moline area. Put yourself out there, don’t be afraid to talk to people, and if you’re not the best English speaker, someone can translate for you,” Jesus said.
