Congratulations to the Black Hawk College softball team for winning the Arrowhead Conference with a perfect 16-0 record!
The Braves clinched the championship Thursday, April 10 with their doubleheader wins at Illinois Valley Community College, moving them to 16-0 in the conference.
The team has four conference games left to play – two games Tuesday, April 15 against Highland Community College and two games Thursday, April 17 against Carl Sandburg College.
As of April 14, the Braves are 33-12 overall in NJCAA Division II with a Region 4 record of 24-3.
In their recent eight-game winning streak, the Braves have tallied 129 runs. Four of the eight games were shutouts, and in the other four games, they only allowed their opponents to score a total of 11 runs.
Just one of those eight games has gone a full seven innings. The rest were decided by the run rule (game called when a team has an eight-run lead after five innings).
Earlier in the season, the Braves had a 10-game winning streak that was snapped by two close losses to Bryant and Stratton College (WI). In those games, the Braves only lost by one run in each game.
“I’m so proud of this group’s growth throughout the season. They have come a long way from an 0-4 start in February and continue to improve every day,” head coach Josh Keener said.
“They have not let their successes get to their heads, have remained focused, and know there are bigger goals yet to be accomplished!” he said.
The Braves also hosted a fundraiser at their Saturday, April 12 doubleheader, raising more than $300 in cash and donated items for the Quad City Animal Welfare Center in Milan, IL.
