Congratulations on your achievement!

Brian campbell nursing student

Black Hawk College is proud to host commencement ceremonies for both the Quad-Cities and East Campuses. This page has some helpful hints to help you prepare for the big day.

General Tips for All Graduates

Gown & Apparel

  • Take your gown of it the bag as soon as you receive it to help it release wrinkles.
  • Do not iron your gown – IT WILL MELT!
  • Please dress comfortably and wear sensible shoes!  There is no true dress code, but many past grads have opted for business causal. There will be extended periods of standing/waiting.
  • Please avoid bringing any personal belongings, such as purses, to the ceremony, as there is nowhere to securely store these items.

Guest or General Attendance

  • If you have changed your mind, and no longer wish to participate in the ceremony, please contact us immediately.
  • There is no limit to the number of guests you may bring, but seating is first come-first served.

Name Announcement

Cards are distributed at both ceremonies to aid faculty members in announcing your name and award.

If you would like to make changes to how your name is said you should write those changes directly on your card when you obtain it. This includes:

  • Adding/omitting a name (middle, last, etc.)
  • Providing a phonetic spelling of your name if it is frequently mispronounced.
  • Including a “rhymes with” description to aid pronunciation.

You can also email your correct pronunciation to the registrar’s office:

Transcripts

If you plan to transfer or seek employment after BHC, you are encouraged to order transcripts. You can have it sent current/as-is (NOW), or you can have it held for grades to be posted or held for your degree to be posted.  We offer paper and electronic delivery.

Photos

GradImages will be there to take professional photos. You will work directly with them to place an order. You may have already received info from them.  If you have not, we’ll work with them to get you connected.
