Transfer GPA

  • College of Liberal Arts and Sciences – Minimum 2.50 GPA on at least 24 semester hours earned after high school graduation.  Minimum  2.25 GPA from all colleges attended if awarded the Associate in Arts degree from Black Hawk College. Students with fewer than 24 semester hours will be considered for admission based on a combination of high school and college academic records, as well as ACT or SAT scores.

Application deadlines

For most programs (excluding some in education, nursing and business).

  • Fall – July 15
  • Spring – Dec. 1
  • Summer – May 1

Agreements & Special Programs

Illinois Community College Opportunity Scholarship

$7,500 a year for up to two years.

For students who transfer to the University of Iowa within one year of earning their Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree, this scholarship is available to non-resident students who have only attended a community college in Illinois (no other four-year institutions or community colleges outside of Illinois). Students completing their degree through one of Iowa’s Distance Education or online programs are not eligible for this award.

A minimum 3.0 transfer GPA is required at the time of enrollment.

Eligible applicants must complete a University of Iowa Transfer Application by the following deadlines:

  • Fall Semester – May 1
  • Spring Semester – Nov. 1

Articulation Agreement

Transfer students with an AA degree from an Illinois community college will enter the University of Iowa having fulfilled all General Education Program requirements in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Tippie College of Business, College of Education, College of Public Health and University College with the exception of:

  • The respective World Language requirement for each UI college.
  • The Understanding Cultural Perspectives requirement for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Tippie College of Business.
  • The Business/Management or Leadership and Career Development for University College.

NOTE:  the Articulation Agreement is not applicable to the College of Engineering or the College of Nursing.  Your credits will be evaluated course-by-course to determine how they transfer.
