The ArtSpace Gallery at the Quad-Cities Campus is exhibiting “obSESSed” – sculpture by Sessah DeleRue – from Monday, Aug. 24 to Friday, Sept. 18.

Everyone is invited to a closing reception Thursday, Sept. 17 from 4-5:15 p.m. with an artist talk at 4:15 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.

The ArtSpace Gallery is located on the first floor of Building 4 at the Quad-Cities Campus, 6600 34th Ave., Moline.

About the artist

Sessah DelaRue is a visual artist based in Loves Park, IL. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Fine Arts from Northern Illinois University. DelaRue’s work is rooted in a thoughtful exploration of materials, process and play, with a focus on the ways objects and materials can be transformed through experimentation and careful attention. Her practice is driven by curiosity, allowing each material to reveal its own possibilities through processes of making, altering and assembling.

DelaRue’s work considers the relationship between structure and discovery, embracing moments of change, imperfection and unexpected outcomes. Through an ongoing investigation of texture, form and material qualities, she creates work that reflects both deliberate choices and the inherent character of the materials themselves.

Her practice celebrates the act of making as a space for exploration and connection, inviting viewers to engage with the physical presence of objects and the stories that emerge through their transformation.

Artist Statement

“obSESSed” brings together abstract sculptures from several previous exhibitions and bodies of work, revealing the forms, materials and ideas that have remained at the heart of my practice. Although these pieces were created at different times and for different contexts, seeing them together allows me to recognize a continuity that was not always apparent while creating them. The exhibition becomes an opportunity to observe how the works communicate with one another, uncover recurring themes and visual language, and gain a deeper understanding of the evolution of my practice.
