Baseball coach, ryan lorber, 2025-26Black Hawk College is proud to announce that Ryan Lorber has accepted the position of head baseball coach effective Sept. 27, 2025.

Lorber is no stranger to Braves baseball. A graduate of Davenport Central High School, Lorber began his collegiate playing career at Black Hawk College, where he played under head coach Arnie Chavera for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.

During his time as a Brave, Lorber was the starting catcher, team captain, All-Conference honoree and team MVP, an honor voted on by his peers. He went on to play for and graduate from NCAA Division II Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI, before serving three years as an assistant coach at Marshalltown Community College in central Iowa.

Most recently, Lorber returned to Black Hawk College as an assistant coach and volunteer during the 2024-25 season. His leadership, energy and dedication to the student-athlete experience have quickly made a strong impression.

“Ryan has shown a tremendous work ethic, a deep appreciation for the student-athlete journey, and a true desire to become a superb college baseball head coach,” said Arnie Chavera, BHC athletic director.

“Ryan also has the rare distinction of serving as a team captain for all five years of his college playing career,” he said. “That speaks volumes about his ability to both lead and follow.

“I am confident he will build a successful program rooted in teaching life lessons, reinforcing academic success, and providing a safe and quality experience for years to come,” Chavera added.

Lorber’s journey from student-athlete to head coach is a proud reflection of the opportunities and lifelong impact that begin at Black Hawk College.
