Building 2 Renovation

On a Saturday morning in mid-September, dozens of people filled the second floor of Building 2 to celebrate the top-to-bottom renovation of the 55-year-old facility.
After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, guests toured the 66,000-square-foot building that now is home to the college’s career and technical education (CTE) programs.
“Building 2 may not have a fancy name, but it represents everything important to Black Hawk College — opportunity, innovation and student success,” said Dr. Jeremy Thomas, BHC president.
The two-story facility at the Quad-Cities Campus includes:
- 4,000-square-foot addition with welding lab, fabrication lab, grinding room and tool crib
- 11 classrooms, 8 labs and 3 group study rooms
- Programs such as Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD), Computer Information Systems (CIS), Cybersecurity, Engineering Technology, Industrial and Preventative Maintenance, esports and Mechatronics.
The project was the culmination of more than a year of construction that retooled the former science building for the future.
The Sept. 20 ribbon cutting and open house brought together about 200 BHC employees, trustees, students, alumni, college retirees, contractors and members of the community.
Thanks to everyone who stopped by to join the celebration!
