Traveling with a team, or for any school-affiliated event, can be fun and rewarding, but it can also be a stressful experience for some. Here are my tips to make the most out of school trips:

Pack Smart

Create a list of essential items such as clothes, shoes, toiletries, and belongings that are reflective of your itinerary. If you make a list, and check it twice, you’ll save a lot of time worrying about what to wear and where your toothbrush is. Also, packing portable chargers are a must on long travel days, as well as snacks and drinks suitable for a van ride.

Stay Organized

There are a lot of moving pieces involved with traveling, but staying organized can make it easy to navigate. First and foremost, get on top of homework. Anything that can be completed before the trip should be, but also allotting time in your schedule during the trip can encourage discipline. As the trip rolls on, keeping your personal belongings in order will be important, as well as keeping important items (like your phone or wallet) secure.

Show Gratitude

If the trip felt stressful for you, odds are it was 10x more stressful for your coach or teacher. Saying thank you goes a long way for the organizers who made the trip possible and have contributed to your success. Furthermore, take a moment to reflect on what you have learned and the unique opportunity you are given, and don’t be afraid to share this with others.

Additional Tips

Follow rules and stay respectful and responsible. Stay punctual and communicative with your chaperones. Be an active, engaged participant in activities. Remember, your actions are not only reflective of yourself, but of Black Hawk, so be a positive representative of your school.
