The ESL, Languages, Humanities, Philosophy and Speech department at Black Hawk College provides a diverse range of courses to meet transfer requirements for bachelor’s degrees. By obtaining an Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) degree, students can seamlessly transition to their desired four-year institutions. Additionally, the department offers engaging student clubs for both major and non-major students, along with an Academic ESL program catering to non-native and international students.

Non-Majors Welcome
Nearly all BHC students take a required speech or communications class in this department. Interesting electives are also available, from Intercultural Communication to Ethics.
Speech Communication
Speech courses not only meet your gen-ed requirements, but also help you develop strong communication skills that employers expect. Skills taught and practiced in class allow you to anticipate and adapt to the challenges of communicating in your personal and professional life.
Note: For online completely sections of SPEC 101, students are required to record their speeches following requirements set by IAI.
