As the leaves change and it gets chilly here in Central Illinois. Both Black Hawk College campuses are gearing up for a spooktacular season!

Kids wait in line to trick-or-treat at the East Campus, bouncing from the excitement of seeing horses and their handlers dressed up. They also cannot wait to fill their bags with all sorts of goodies obviously, that’s what Halloween is about!
The Quad-Cities Campus gears up to host bonding time for college students, because who says the big kids can’t enjoy Halloween?
These are two special events that bring communities together, both the surrounding communities of the East Campus and the college community at the Quad Cities.
As the East Campus gears up for another exciting year of the Trick-or-Treat Trail, hundreds of kids dressed in their best costumes await walking the campus.
How does such an amazing free event happen every year? Well, the college provides a large amount of candy to any students or employees participating in the Trick-or-Treat Trail. Employees and students alike dress up and take part in handing out candy as eager hands reach to grab it and say their thank yous.

Kids and parents walk all across campus, making their way to the main event – the barn. Kids’ eyes light up as they see the well-decorated stalls and students dressed up. They also love seeing the horses dressed up and ready to greet any kid who walks past. Be careful, though, they might steal your candy.
The equine students start gearing up for this event as soon as the year starts, brainstorming stall decor and costumes to make it memorable for every kid that walks through the barn. There is no specific theme, but Black Hawk College makes it a core memory for students and employees, seeing kids excited to walk through.

While things ramp up at the East Campus, the Quad-Cities Campus Student Government Association works hard to plan a theme for the Halloween event of the year.
At the Halloween Howdy Hoedown, students enjoy free Texas Roadhouse, listen to live music, play games and even get some balloon art! There are plenty of fun activities for students to enjoy and connect.
The Halloween Howdy Hoedown is perfect for everyone to have some fun after the stress of midterms, a place for students to relax and get to know one another. This is one of the most planned events that gets students’ spirits up.
Getting to know other students from across both campuses is so important for the collegiate community as well as building a solid foundation for future success. Having a fun event like this is extremely important for morale.
Both of these events bring a great sense of belonging to the Black Hawk College community, and we are so lucky for these opportunities. As Halloween grows nearer, let’s remember that there can be fun even after stress.
Seeing the joy on everyone’s face as they get to enjoy treats after midterms feels like a trick. Kids and students alike get to feel extreme Halloween fun.
This community-building proves how important it is for events like this to continue. Not only as a tradition, but as a lifelong building block for connections and friendships.
