There is an immediate need for substitute teachers and substitute paraprofessionals in Illinois. Have you ever wondered what it takes to fill one of these positions? Are you looking for a career change? Staff from the Rock Island County Regional Office of Education will explain the process and explain how the school districts manage their call lists.

Black Hawk College’s Professional & Continuing Education (PaCE) and the Rock Island County Regional Office of Education (RIROE) have partnered to offer a variety of classes both online and in the classroom to help you enhance your professional development.

To obtain PD Hours for a chosen class, teachers need to contact Julie at the RIROE (309-736-1111) to obtain approval. The processing fee for PD hours is $25 and is payable to the RIROE.

Level 1 – Microsoft Excel is an important spreadsheet application that is essential for use at home and at work. Level 1 – Microsoft PowerPoint is the best presentation software for meetings, industry talks, business proposals, and more. Create simple slideshows or complex multimedia displays. Class content includes: using templates; formatting and editing text; preparing and printing outlines, handouts, and speaker notes; adding special effects like sound and animation; inserting graphics and tables; using transitions and timing; and running the slide show. Level 2 – This series will teach what you need to know to work with an existing database or create one of your own. By the end of the series, you will know how to create and work with tables, queries, forms and reports. A workbook is included in the fee for each class.

Part 1
Prerequisite: Windows, Microsoft Office Word and Excel, and an understanding of a database.

Learn to create and work with tables, the foundation of your database. Specific skills to be covered include: creating tables, editing and modifying tables, setting field properties, finding and filtering data, creating relationships, using simple queries, and printing data.

Don’t miss this class that pulls everything together. You have made the tables, queries, forms and reports, now automate them and learn tricks to make them work better. This class shows all the things Access has to offer to someone who has Part 1 and 2 skills. It also includes time for questions about your own database. Specific topics to be covered include: analyzing tables, exporting data to Excel and Word, using advanced query wizards, using charts, working with ActiveX controls and indexes, replicating databases, using Access and the Internet, creating and using macros and switchboards.

iPad: Beginner

Level 1 – Are you unsure how to use your iPad? Learn the basics of using your device from settings to apps.  Understand your Home Screen. Learn how to use the Internet, how to add contacts, how to set up an e-mail account and how to navigate the app store and iTunes. Bring your iPad to class.
