Bridge: Play of the Hand in the 21st Century
Instructor: V. Shelley

Prerequisite:  Bidding in the 21st Century or experience in playing bridge with knowledge of basic, modern bidding skills

This is the second course in the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) series designed for those who already possess the fundamentals of bidding a hand of bridge. There is an extensive review of bidding and some discussion of defensive strategies, but most class hours are spent in developing sound play-of-the-hand strategies to make the contract.

Topics include:

  • The development of tricks through promotion and length, finessing, ruffing and discarding
  • Learning how to understand “entries” and how to manage the trump suit
  • Learning how to make and follow a plan to make each contract
  • Experience a variety of methods: small group and large group discussions, paper-pencil activities, at-the-table card demonstrations, and playing many, many hands of bridge.

Each lesson will include handouts and an email summary. The first half hour of each class is a warm-up session reviewing learned materials. The new content lesson begins following the review, making this a 2.5-hour commitment. Textbook available from the instructor the first night of class for $15.

9 Mondays             Feb. 4 – Apr. 8               5:30 – 8:00 p.m.
