College for Kids Brochure CoverThe purpose of the College for Kids program is to broaden a student’s experiences with a variety of topics.  Our goal is to develop and expand a student’s interest, stimulate creativity, and provide a unique learning experience.

Dates and Times
July 15-19 (Monday-Friday)
Students participate in three consecutive classes that meet for five days. There is a 15-minute break between classes.
1st class — 1-2 p.m.
2nd class — 2:15-3:15 p.m.
3rd class — 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Cost – $105

Eligibility
The program is designed for students who are entering 6th, 7th, 8th or 9th grades for the 2019-20 school year. Initial eligibility is determined by meeting at least one of the following criteria:

The most recent achievement score at the 90th percentile or above on one of the following:
Reading total
-or- Math total
-or- Social Studies
-or- Science
-or- The most recent ability test score at the 90th percentile or above.

Once a student qualifies and attends College for Kids, he/she is eligible through 9th grade.
Since students are identified by their schools, parents may address questions about their child’s test scores with the child’s school principal.

Registration – New students
Toward the end of April, the College for Kids registration packets will be mailed directly to the schools. The schools are responsible for determining which incoming 6th graders are eligible to attend as well as those incoming 7th, 8th and 9th graders who now have become eligible by meeting the requirements. After completing the necessary forms, please mail them along with payment to College for Kids, Black Hawk College-PaCE Department, 301 Avenue of the Cities, East Moline, IL 61244. Students can also fax the forms to 309-796-8282 as long as payment is made by credit card. Emailing forms to a BHC staff member will not be accepted.

Registration – Past students
Any student entering 7th grade who attended College for Kids in 2018 will receive a signed registration packet in the mail toward the end of April. Any student entering 8th or 9th grade who attended College for Kids in the past will receive a postcard toward the end of April with instructions on how to access the online registration packet. For those students using the online registration packet, if you would prefer a hard copy, please contact your school principal or counselor or contact the College for Kids office at 309-796-5146. After completing the necessary forms, please them along with payment to College for Kids, Black Hawk College-PaCE Department, 301 Avenue of the Cities, East Moline, IL 61244. Students can also fax the forms to 309-796-8282 as long as payment is made by credit card. Emailing forms to a BHC staff member will not be accepted.

Registration – Out-of-state/out-of-district/home-schooled students
A student does not need to live in the state of Illinois or within the Black Hawk College District in order to attend College for Kids.  Home-schooled students are also welcome to attend the program.  All students need to take a standardized test and meet the eligibility requirements mentioned above.  If a student is eligible, please submit the most recent standardized test results to courvilleb@bhc.edu. Once confirmed, we will mail a registration packet to the student.

Last day accepting registrations – Wednesday, July 3.

Refund
Available for students who drop from the program by 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 3.  There will be no refund for students who are dismissed from the program for disciplinary reasons.

Withdrawal/Drop
There is no refund for a withdrawal from the program after 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 3. Students will be dropped from the program if all fees are not paid in full by July 3. This includes students receiving financial aid who have a balance due.

Classes
Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to the popularity of the program, students should number their top 15 selections with #1 being your 1st choice and #15 being your last choice.  Class schedules will be mailed the second week in June along with a map of the college and further details on the program.
