On the afternoon of Monday, Nov. 29, 2021, a Black Hawk College time capsule was sealed and placed inside a wall in Building 1 at the Quad-Cities Campus.
A plaque designating the spot says, “To be opened on the 100th Anniversary, 2046.”
(Yes, there is a mask in it, but you’ll have to wait for the opening in 25 years to see all the contents!)
The time capsule sealing was the final event in celebration of the college’s 75th anniversary.
In 1946, Moline Community College was founded to provide education and training to World War II veterans. In 1961, Moline Community College became Black Hawk College, the first county-wide junior college in Illinois.
As part of the college’s 25th anniversary celebration, a time capsule was “soldered air tight” at the Quad-Cities Campus the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1971.
The contents of that time capsule are on display in Building 1 at the Quad-Cities Campus, not far from the 2021 time capsule.
