She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb in 2015. Diana believes in the accessibility of art in local communities and in 2023 executed public art projects in Rockford\, IL\, and Elgin\, IL. She held a solo exhibition at the Rockford Art Museum in 2023 and has exhibited in the Beverly Arts Center\, Purple Window Gallery in Mana Contemporary Chicago\, Side Street Studio Arts\, Lubeznik Center for the Arts\, Beck Center for the Arts\, Oak Park Art League and other Midwestern galleries. Her first curational debut\, “Dawn is a Headspace\, Night is a Feeling” held at Purple Window Gallery in February 2024\, cultivated an accessible exhibition that showcased local\, national and international artists of diverse backgrounds and skill levels. \nIn their new body of work\, she incorporates personal archives of photographs embedded within her abstract environments. Diana explores a direction of preserving familial lineage\, confronting barriers of perception and ethnic ambiguity while honoring her multicultural background\, and uncovering faded memories suspended in the fabric of time. \nNatalie Pivoney\nNatalie Pivoney is a contemporary oil painter and educator serving as a project coordinator for Purple Window Gallery in Chicago. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2019 from Northern Illinois University\, a Master of Arts in Studio Art in 2016 from Eastern Illinois University\, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in art education in 2013 from Southern Illinois University where she earned her Illinois Professional Educator License. \nHer solo exhibitions include Chasing Dopamine at Purple Window Gallery in Chicago in 2023 and Games for May at Northern Illinois University in 2019 as well as numerous group exhibitions throughout the United States. She has worked as an arts educator at the college and elementary levels\, juried multiple shows and served as president for the Graduate Arts Association while at NIU. Pivoney has completed artist residencies in Galesburg\, IL\, and Paonia\, CO. She won 1st place in the 2017 Imprints of the Mind exhibition at Dittmar Gallery and Juror’s Choice Award in the 2018 Ars Nova exhibition at the Jack Olson Gallery and has been featured in multiple magazines including Studio Visit Magazine\, PIKCHUR Magazine and Art+Type Magazine. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Details\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\nCategories\n\n\nQuad-Cities Events\, Art\, Music & Theatre\, Community (QC)\n\n\nTags

SUMMARY:ArtSpace Gallery exhibit - 'Embracing the Syncopation: A Visual Exploration'
DESCRIPTION:The ArtSpace Gallery at the Quad-Cities Campus is exhibiting “Embracing the Syncopation: A Visual Exploration\,” photography by Rich Ankeney\, from Monday\, Jan. 13 to Friday\, Feb. 21. \nEveryone is invited to a reception and artist talk Wednesday\, Feb. 19 from 4-6 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. \nThe ArtSpace Gallery is located on the first floor of Building 4 at the Quad-Cities Campus\, 6600 34th Ave.\, Moline. \nFor more information about exhibits in the ArtSpace Gallery\, email ArtDesign@bhc.edu or visit Black Hawk College Art and Design. \nAbout the artist\nRich Ankeney of Galesburg\, IL\, has been making photographs for more than 50 years and recently started painting again. He has exhibited widely and his work has received numerous awards. Ankeney earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in painting and photography from Quincy University\, a master’s degree in art education from Illinois State University\, and a master’s degree in instructional technology from Western Illinois University. He completed more than 40 hours of coursework to achieve Apple Teacher Institute certification. Ankeney taught art and photography classes at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg for more than 25 years. In 2002\, he received an Outstanding Alumni Award from the Art Department at Quincy University. \nArtist statement\n“My work tries to capture the rhythmic\, melodic and harmonic energy of music\, especially jazz. Strong color combinations are often used to achieve a pulsating rhythm and to produce complex harmonies and discords. Melody (subject matter) is downplayed or absent. Many times I can create a dynamic reorganization of the artistic elements. My method of abstracting creates variations by manipulating line\, form and color in a kind of pictorial counterpoint. The human figure is in no way a representation\, but a symbol of elemental and artistic forces and energy.” \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Details\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganizer\n\n\n\n\n\nCategories\n\n\nQuad-Cities Events\, Art\, Music & Theatre\, Community (QC)\n\n\nTags
