SUMMARY:Sexual Assault Awareness Month – Denim Day
DESCRIPTION:On Denim Day\, wear jeans with a purpose! \nJoin the Peer Mentors and Freedom House in Building A\, cafeteria to decorate denim with encouraging messages to sexual assault survivors!  \nAbout Denim Day\nOn Denim Day\, millions of people across the world will wear jeans with a purpose\, support survivors and educate themselves and others about all forms of sexual violence. \nDenim Day is recognized on the last Wednesday in April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. \nThe Denim Day campaign began in 1999 after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court to overturn a rape conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove them\, thereby implying consent. \nFollowing the reversal\, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.

SUMMARY:Sexual Assault Awareness Month – The Clothesline Project
DESCRIPTION:As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month\, Black Hawk College presents The Clothesline Project – Bearing witness to violence against women since 1990. \nThe Clothesline Project is a visual display of shirts with graphic messages and illustrations that have been designed by women survivors of violence or by someone who loves a woman who has been killed. The purpose is to increase awareness of the impact of violence against women\, to celebrate a woman’s strength to survive and to provide another avenue for her to courageously break the silence that often surrounds her experience. \nThe Clothesline Project began when members of the Cape Cod Women’s Agenda hung a clothesline across the Village Green in Hyannis\, MA\, with 31 shirts designed by survivors of assault\, rape and child sexual abuse. \nView the Clothesline Project in Building A\, upper level. \nSponsored by the BHC Counseling Department and Freedom House.
