SUMMARY:ArtSpace Gallery exhibit - 'Keepsakes: Real and Imagined'
DESCRIPTION:The ArtSpace Gallery at the Quad-Cities Campus is exhibiting “Keepsakes: Real and Imagined\,” paintings by Angelina Diana and Natalie Pivoney\, from Monday\, Nov. 4 to Friday\, Dec. 6. \nTopstar by Natalie Pivoney \nEveryone is invited to a reception and artist talk Wednesday\, Dec. 4 from 4-6 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. \nThe ArtSpace Gallery is located on the first floor of Building 4 at the Quad-Cities Campus\, 6600 34th Ave.\, Moline. \nFor more information about exhibits in the ArtSpace Gallery\, email ArtDesign@bhc.edu or visit Black Hawk College Art and Design. \nZephyr by Angelina Diana \nAbout the artists\nAngelina Esperanza Diana\nAngelina Esperanza Diana is a visual artist\, co-op member of Purple Window Gallery\, and curator residing in Elgin\, IL. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb in 2015. Diana believes in the accessibility of art in local communities and in 2023 executed public art projects in Rockford\, IL\, and Elgin\, IL. She held a solo exhibition at the Rockford Art Museum in 2023 and has exhibited in the Beverly Arts Center\, Purple Window Gallery in Mana Contemporary Chicago\, Side Street Studio Arts\, Lubeznik Center for the Arts\, Beck Center for the Arts\, Oak Park Art League and other Midwestern galleries. Her first curational debut\, “Dawn is a Headspace\, Night is a Feeling” held at Purple Window Gallery in February 2024\, cultivated an accessible exhibition that showcased local\, national and international artists of diverse backgrounds and skill levels. \nIn their new body of work\, she incorporates personal archives of photographs embedded within her abstract environments. Diana explores a direction of preserving familial lineage\, confronting barriers of perception and ethnic ambiguity while honoring her multicultural background\, and uncovering faded memories suspended in the fabric of time. \nNatalie Pivoney\nNatalie Pivoney is a contemporary oil painter and educator serving as a project coordinator for Purple Window Gallery in Chicago. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2019 from Northern Illinois University\, a Master of Arts in Studio Art in 2016 from Eastern Illinois University\, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in art education in 2013 from Southern Illinois University where she earned her Illinois Professional Educator License. \nHer solo exhibitions include Chasing Dopamine at Purple Window Gallery in Chicago in 2023 and Games for May at Northern Illinois University in 2019 as well as numerous group exhibitions throughout the United States. She has worked as an arts educator at the college and elementary levels\, juried multiple shows and served as president for the Graduate Arts Association while at NIU. Pivoney has completed artist residencies in Galesburg\, IL\, and Paonia\, CO. She won 1st place in the 2017 Imprints of the Mind exhibition at Dittmar Gallery and Juror’s Choice Award in the 2018 Ars Nova exhibition at the Jack Olson Gallery and has been featured in multiple magazines including Studio Visit Magazine\, PIKCHUR Magazine and Art+Type Magazine.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a book talk and signing with BHC alum Cheryl Eriksen as she talks about the role horses have played in her life as both healers and teachers. \nTuesday\, Dec. 3\n6:30 p.m.\nEast Campus\nBuilding A\, first floor\, library \nEriksen is the author of three books: \n\n“Horse Listening: Gratitude\, Curiosity and Intention\, An Interactive Journal for You and Your Horse”\n“Follow Me\, Friend: A Memoir of Undiagnosed PTSD\, and the Healing Power of the Horse-Human Relationship”\n“I’ve Never Been to Me: One Woman’s Search for Purpose\, and the Horse That Showed Her the Way”\n\nBooks will be available for purchase. \nFor more information\, contact Cat Broady in the BHC Library at broadyc@bhc.edu. \n  \nAbout Cheryl L. Eriksen\, MSW\nAuthor\, horse professional and East Campus graduate \nAfter graduating in 1998\, Eriksen trained and showed the APHA circuit for local horseman Danny Conner and worked as a veterinary assistant for the late Dr. Schwerbrock. After leaving Illinois in 2002\, Cheryl worked in multiple areas of the horse industry finding her niche working as a horse midwife and prepping sales horses for world-renowned Claiborne Farm in Paris\, KY. \nIn 2009\, she returned to school to earn her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work with a focus on equine-assisted therapy. She has developed and taught continuing education courses on equine-assisted psychotherapy as a viable adjunct therapy\, and on trauma\, resiliency and horse sense for social workers. \nEriksen resides in the historic Bluegrass region of Kentucky\, working as a horse midwife for various thoroughbred farms January-May and focusing on her writing\, teaching and speaking engagements the rest of the year. \nHer memoir\, “Follow Me\, Friend\,” tells the story of living with undiagnosed PTSD from a trauma she had no conscious memory of and the healing she found working with a special horse. \n
