Poetry Out Loud regional competition
Thursday, Feb 13 // 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Students from Annawan, Bureau Valley, Eureka and United high schools will be participating in the Poetry Out Loud regional competition at the East Campus.
Poetry Out Loud is a program that encourages the nation’s youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation.
The competition helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life.
Students advance from classroom competition to a school-wide competition then a regional contest, state finals and national finals.
The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation have partnered with the Illinois Arts Council and the Midwest Writing Center in Rock Island to present Poetry Out Loud.
