head & shoulder shot of Ernest HarrisonErnest Harrison, Los-Angeles based conductor and soloist and newly appointed artistic director of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA), will be at the Quad-Cities Campus for a two-day residency Jan. 22-23.

All events are open to the public. Admission is free.

  • Lecture: Tracing the Musical Legacy of the African Diaspora

    The music of the African Diaspora has given birth to the sound of popular music through the influences of jazz, blues, gospel, R&B, hip-hop, country, techno and pop. This session will focus on the development of the Negro spiritual, its influence on the creation of protest songs of the Civil Rights era, and the composers, songwriters and performers who have kept their legacy alive.

About Ernest Harrison:

A graduate of the University of Missouri and Auburn University, Harrison is completing his doctoral studies in choral music at the University of Southern California. In addition to his work with GMCLA, he also directs the National Children’s Chorus Concerto Ensemble, the Pasadena Conservatory of Music’s Cantare Chamber choir and the Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church choir. An experienced choral soloist, Harrison has shared the stage with The Rolling Stones, toured Europe and throughout the United States, and most recently performed with Grammy award-winning professional choir, Conspirare.
