ArtSpace Gallery exhibit – Photography by Nate Mathews
January 22 - March 15

The ArtSpace Gallery at the Quad-Cities Campus is exhibiting “Ersatz,” photography by Nate Mathews, from Friday, Jan. 22 through Friday, March 12.
Ersatz: [er-zahts]: An artificial substance or article used to replace something natural or genuine; a substitute.
“Ersatz is a photographic exploration about how architecture influences those who inhabit it,” an associate professor of photography in the Art + Design Department at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago.
His work explores poorly designed architectural spaces as well as sites constructed by the U.S. military during the Cold War.
“Architecture plays an important part in how people interact, where and whether they interact, and how they feel about the activity that happens in the space,” he says. “People recognize when they do not like a space or if it is lacking something and shown in this work is the attempts to rectify the flaws in the design.”
The ArtSpace Gallery is located on the first floor of Building 4 at the Quad-Cities Campus, 6600 34th Ave., Moline.
