BHC women’s basketball team after winning their Feb. 7 game and the Arrowhead Conference title

Congratulations to the BHC women’s basketball team for winning the Arrowhead Conference for the second consecutive year!

With a 66-56 win over conference rival Carl Sandburg College on Feb. 7, the Braves upped their record to 8-0 in the conference and 18-9 overall and have won 11 straight games.

“I am proud of our team and our staff. We didn’t play our best game (against Carl Sandburg) but to have a target on our chest, go on the road and figure out a way to win in a hostile environment says a lot about the resiliency of this team,” said coach Logan Frye.

On Dec. 5, 2022, for the first time in program history, the BHC women’s basketball teamed was ranked nationally. The team’s success has not come easy.

“We have battled adversity all year long with players missing time and season-ending injuries but the ‘next one up’ dynamic has kept this team fighting and says a lot about the toughness and togetherness within our program,” Frye said.

Four weeks ago, the Braves lost their leading scorer and rebounder, Khloe Damm.

“Our ladies have stepped up, embraced new roles, and have been able to execute down the stretch to earn this conference championship,” Frye said.

In the Feb. 7 game against Carl Sandburg, the Braves high scorers were Me’kiyah Harris with 16 points (including three 3-pointers), Kylee Parker with 15 points, Kayla Jones with 13 points, and Laney Parker with 11 points.

“While we will enjoy this moment, there is still some more work to do,” Frye said.

“We want to finish the conference undefeated, get to 20 wins, and be playing our best basketball heading into March.”

The Braves have three games left in the regular season:

  • Thursday, Feb. 9 – Illinois Valley Community College – away – CANCELED – rescheduled for Thursday, Feb. 16 at IVCC
  • Saturday, Feb. 11 – Kankakee Community College – home
  • Tuesday, Feb. 14 – Kishwaukee College – home
