Congratulations to the BHC Soil Judging Team for being undefeated in Fall 2022! The team took first place at two regional American Society of Agronomy contests in two states.
The team won both the Region 5 Soil Judging Contest hosted Oct. 2-7 by Iowa State University in northwest Iowa and the Region 3 contest hosted Oct. 20-22 by the University of Illinois in central Illinois.
At the Region 3 contest, Carli Wright won 1st place individual. At the Region 5 contest, Cal Larson took 2nd place individual.

What is soil judging?
“Soil judging provides an opportunity for students to study soils through direct experience in the field,” according to the American Society of Agronomy Region 5 Soil Judging Handbook.
“Students learn to describe soil properties, identify different kinds of soils and associated landscape features, and interpret soil information for agriculture and other land uses. These skills are developed by studying a variety of soils formed from a wide range of parent materials and vegetation in different topographic settings.”
