Two Black Hawk College faculty members recently received the Golden Apple Award from the college’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter at the Quad-Cities Campus.

During the honor society’s Virtual Spring 2021 Induction Ceremony, the Golden Apple Award was presented to:

  • Sarah Nelson, assistant professor of psychology – nominated by Tori Nielsen
  • Laura Snook, math professor – nominated by Katelyn Fleming

Laura Snook “goes out of her way to make sure we all understand the content she is providing us,” Katelyn Fleming said. “Hands down, she is one of the best professors I have had during my first semester at college.”

Sarah Nelson “really cares about her students and the field of psychology,” Tori Nielsen said. She was “always willing to help us understand the material, and her class discussions were always student-led. It was never just her talking while standing and talking while reading from a screen.”

“We think Professor Snook and Professor Nelson are great examples of Black Hawk’s exceptional faculty,” said Leah Mueller, chapter vice president of service. “We are happy to celebrate them and all of our other wonderful nominees on behalf of all of the Black Hawk students.”

The chapter thanks the Phi Theta Kappa students who took the time to nominate faculty and staff members.

Each fall and spring semester, PTK students at the Quad-Cities Campus are asked to recommend a well-deserving faculty or staff member for the award. The first Golden Apple Award was presented at the chapter’s Spring 2019 induction ceremony.

Phi Theta Kappa members also are writing PTK Posts to share student stories and information to help current and prospective BHC students be successful and happy with their college experience. Read what the students have written.
