BHC music instructor publishes pandemic-related research

black and white headshot of Irene Apanovitch-LeitesBlack Hawk College music instructor Dr. Irene Apanovitch-Leites co-authored a study that recently was published in American Choral Directors Association’s scholarly publication, Choral Journal.

“COVID and the Choral Educator: Preparedness, Perceptions, Attitudes, and a Way Forward” was published in the February 2021 issue.

The study investigated the extent to which choral directors working in collegiate, K-12 and community settings across the U.S. felt they were prepared and equipped to do their job following the shutdown that forced their instruction to be completely virtual.

Dr. Leites is a member of the Art, Design and Performing Arts Department. She oversees the college’s choral music program and teaches Theory of Music, Intro to Non-Western Music and Music Appreciation as well as applied voice and piano lessons.
