During the honor society’s Virtual Fall 2020 Induction Ceremony, the Golden Apple Award was presented to:

Chris Appuhn, associate professor of math – nominated by Jay Dykstra
Mike Seevers, lead writing tutor – nominated by Liam Lershen

“Your dedication and ability to help out others, it goes above and beyond,” Lershen said about Seevers. “You’ve helped me and countless other students. Thank you for everything.”

“Congratulations Professor Appuhn for showing care and compassion to your students and caring about their future endeavors,” Dykstra said.

“Professor Appuhn and tutor Mike Seevers are great examples of Black Hawk’s exceptional faculty and staff members,” said Leah Mueller, chapter vice president of service. “We thank them for their hard work.”

The chapter also thanks the students who took the time to nominate faculty and staff members for the award.

Each fall and spring semester, Phi Theta Kappa members are asked to recommend a well-deserving faculty or staff member. The first Golden Apple Award was presented at the chapter’s Spring 2019 induction ceremony.

Appuhn is the fifth faculty member and Seevers is the first staff member to receive the award.
