College for Kids went virtual this summer with students and instructors using Canvas (the college’s learning management system) to attend classes online.

The annual week-long program is for talented and gifted middle school students.

Students chose from a wide variety of classes, including Zentangles and Doodles, Spanish, Challenging Your Logic, Mythology, Chess, Zombie Apocalypse Now, and Web Coding in HTML and CSS. Chef for a Week was a favorite as students prepared recipes such as chicken fajitas, brownies, broccoli cheese casserole and monkey bread at home.

Although the traditional in-person program wasn’t possible this year, more than 75% of the students rated this year’s program as very good or excellent.

Geneseo Middle School led with the most students attending followed by Jordan Catholic School in Rock Island.
