Learn from caring instructors

The Phi Theta Kappa honor society chapter at the Quad-Cities Campus awards well-deserving faculty with Golden Apple Awards.

This month Jodi Becker, assistant professor of child development and co-chair of the Health and Human Services Department, became the latest Golden Apple recipient.

Her nominator, Sarah, said Becker always is very responsive when she needs help or encouragement.

“I really appreciate her and am grateful to be one of her students,” Sarah wrote.

In Fall 2019, the chapter honored Dr. Seref Onder, criminal justice instructor, and Linda Steele, adjunct ESL instructor.

Dr. Onder’s nominator, Alexia, wrote that he motivated her to become the best student she could be and makes each lecture interesting.

“Professor Onder is very fair and treats all his students with kindness,” Alexia said.

Blaise, Steele’s nominator, wrote that living in a different country can be difficult, but when you find the right people, you feel at home.

For him, Steele was one of those people.

“Because of how she supported me, I promised myself to never let her down on my education,” Blaise said.

Phi Theta Kappa presented the very first Golden Apple Award to Michelle Johnson, speech professor, in Spring 2019.

Her nominator, Meghan, wrote that Johnson is caring and is always available to help with a smile.

“She helped me build confidence and feel comfortable talking to other people,” Meghan said.
