Congratulations to the first graduates of the Black Hawk College Surgical Technology Program!
Eleven students recently earned the inaugural Surgical Technology Associate in Applied Science degree. Surgical technologists are in demand – nine of the students had jobs lined up before they graduated May 16.
The two-year program launched in August 2017. During their two years of study, the students completed 120 cases in general surgery and four specialties through clinicals at local medical centers.
“I am so thankful for the amazing community support for hosting students in medical centers in the area,” said program director Marcie Davis.
The Black Hawk College program prepares students to function as part of a team in the operating room setting. This includes preparing instruments, setting up the operating room and assisting with the care of patients undergoing surgery.
