Don’t forget college and university representatives visit Black Hawk College’s Quad-Cities Campus every week. Stop by transfer tables for a low-key chat, ask questions, and learn if a college is right for you.

Another great way to find out the facts you need about a transfer school is to visit.  Many colleges have awesome open houses just for transfer students. You might not know what questions to ask, but we have you covered! Our Transfer Resources web page includes a document with 36 Questions to Ask on a College Visit.

Follow a timeline

A good guideline is to apply nine months to a year prior to the enrollment date to the transfer college or university of your choice.

Inquire about scholarships at the institution you will transfer to a year before enrollment and make sure to apply for them by the deadline for your first academic year there.

Have official transcripts from Black Hawk College sent to the college or university you want to transfer to upon application and after each remaining BHC semester is completed.

Also make an appointment to discuss transfer plans with an advisor at the college or university you plan to attend one year prior to transfer.

Apply for financial aid as soon as possible for the next academic year no matter where you will be attending. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) becomes available on Oct. 1 each year, and the deadline to apply is June 30. The sooner you fill it out the better for chances of receiving help, so make it a spring priority if you haven’t completed it yet!

Transferring can be a snap if you make sure to meet with your BHC advisor every semester and take advantage of the transfer resources Black Hawk College provides to help you succeed.
