BHC sweeps NACTA Judging Conference for fourth straight year

NACTA Sweepstakes Award-winning team members & coaches 2019

Congratulations to Black Hawk College East Campus students and coaches for winning the 2019 North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Judging Conference Sweepstakes Award!

This marks the 12th time Black Hawk College has garnered the top prize at the national judging conference. BHC students brought home the Sweepstakes Award in 1981-85, 1989, 2009, 2014 and 2016-18.

The 2019 conference attracted more than 750 students and faculty members from 49 colleges and universities across the United States.

The 52-member BHC team won by having the highest combined team score for two-year schools. The second place team was Northeast Community College from Norfolk, NE. The University of Minnesota-Crookston won for the four-year-schools.

Black Hawk College competed in 12 of the 15 agriculture-related competitions and won eight – Ag Communications, Dairy Judging, Hippology, Horse Judging, Horticulture, Knowledge Bowl, Livestock Management and Soil Judging. BHC students also took second place in Ag Computers.

“Black Hawk College is driven by student success, and this accomplishment drives us!” said Andrew Larson, coach and agronomy professor.
