BHC construction: behind the barricades

Big construction projects are underway at both campuses, and we want to share what is going on behind the barricades.

Quad-Cities Campus Construction

Building 1 is under construction at the Quad-Cities Campus. A 20,000 square foot two-story addition is being built and renovations on the existing building’s third and fourth floors are in progress.

Faculty offices are currently being renovated during the overnight hours, and classroom renovations will begin in May 2019.BHC sign pointing to building 1 and directing to buildings 3 and 4

Groundbreaking for the new addition happened in March 2018, with completion set for August 2019.

Students enrolled in the Fall 2019 semester will be able to take classes in the addition’s eight large classrooms and spend time in an outdoor courtyard perfect for studying or kicking back.

The new courtyard, located between the east side of existing Building 1 and the new Building 1 addition, will also serve as a new space for outdoor activities and events.

An earlier phase of Building 1 construction included bringing a fresh look to Financial Aid, the Bursar’s Office and Enrollment Services in 2018. Some lobby renovations happened over winter break as well.

East Campus Construction

New construction and renovations are also happening at East Campus, which is home to the college’s agriculture department.

A new 19,800 square foot building in progress will increase the amount of horse stalls at East Campus by 25 (36%) to help meet demand, making the total future horse stall count 94.

The new Building 6’s completion is set for March 2019. It connects to Building 5 – Ag Pavilion and Building 7 – Ag Arena.

The Ag Pavilion, which also has stalls, will be renovated this summer with completion by Fall 2019.

Stalls on the south end of the building, where an arena once was, will be removed and the space will return to its previous capacity as a small arena and additional instructional space.

East Campus’ Buildings 1 and 2 were renovated in summer 2018, improving those classrooms on campus, and the Ag Arena also had some improvements.

We are excited that students will be able to enjoy these new areas this year, and we can’t wait to see them completed!
