Students share native dishes at 2018 International Food Competition

3 women standing by banner holding awardsBHC students recently participated in the English as a Second Language Mentor and Mentee Program’s 3rd Annual International Food Competition at the Quad-Cities Campus.

International and U.S. students prepared dishes from Chin State (Myanmar/Burma), India, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Togo (three competitors), the United States and Venezuela.

Judges Christine Immich Rodrigues and Will Pohl selected the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners based on taste, creativity and presentation. Attendees also sampled the dishes and voted for their favorites.

The winners were:

  • 1st place – Maria Martel (middle) – dish from Venezuela
  • 2nd place – Jami Hessell (right) – dish from Japan
  • 3rd place – Bernice Gunaseelan (left) – dish from India

Thanks to Los Charros and Sriracha Thai & Oyster Bar for also providing food at the event.
