Giving back on #GivingTuesday

Giving back this holiday season? Consider supporting the Black Hawk College foundations!

A day dedicated to donating, #GivingTuesday, is the Tuesday following Thanksgiving: this year it’s Tuesday, Nov. 27.

New York’s 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation created #GivingTuesday in 2012. The day kicks off the charitable season and is focused on celebrating and encouraging giving.

The date follows Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, turning the focus from shopping to supporting nonprofits.

There are two Black Hawk College foundations:

Black Hawk College East Foundation for East Campus and Black Hawk College Foundation for the Quad-Cities Campus.

Scholarships, classroom equipment, technology upgrades and beautification projects are just some of what foundation donations make possible at Black Hawk College.

With #GivingTuesday quickly approaching, now is an excellent time to make a donation and to remember the importance of giving.

Both foundations are 501(c)(3) nonprofits, so your donations are tax deductible. Donations in any amount add up to make what the foundations do possible.

Donating online is a convenient and efficient way to support the foundations.

Donate to the Black Hawk College East Foundation to support the East Campus.

Donate to the Black Hawk College Foundation to support the Quad-Cities Campus.

You can select how you want your donation to be used from a drop-down menu on both foundation pages.

Another way to support the Black Hawk College Foundation is to purchase a $20 Isabel Bloom Black Hawk College logo ornament. These limited edition ornaments are available at the Hawk’s Hub and the foundation office at the Quad-Cities Campus.

Want to create a lasting legacy? Then consider planned giving or creating your own scholarship to help BHC students for years to come.

The foundations have more than 200 scholarships available for BHC students.

The Black Hawk College East Foundation has awarded 99 scholarships totaling $86,645 to 75 students for the 2018-19 school year. With additional scholarships that will be awarded in the spring, the foundation expects to exceed $110,000 in scholarship support for the year. The foundation maintains 96 scholarship funds.

The Black Hawk College Foundation has awarded 142 Quad-Cities Campus students scholarships totaling $121,720 for the 2018-19 school year.

There are some limited funds available for QC students for Spring 2019, including:

  • An art scholarship for a nontraditional student.
  • A scholarship for a student with type 1 diabetes.
  • Multiple scholarships for Black Hawk College CNA graduates who want to return to study practical nursing and practical nursing graduates (LPNs) who want to enter the Associate Degree Nursing program.

Donors starting their own scholarship are able to customize the criteria. A few examples of scholarship possibilities are creating one for students in a specific program, those who are involved with a club, from your high school, or who are aspiring for a certain job.

You can create a scholarship to honor of someone who made an impact in your life.

Planned giving options abound as well. Contact either foundation for more information on planned giving opportunities or with any other donation questions.
