No matter what your passion is, there is a club on campus that could be a perfect fit for you! Joining a club is a great way to get involved.
At the Quad-Cities Campus, a Club & Organization Fair is set for Thursday, Aug. 30 in the Hawk’s Nest (Building 4, second floor) from 10 a.m. to noon. You can visit club booths and create personalized kindness rocks.
Enjoy free Chick-fil-A for lunch and hear about Creating a Kindness Culture from guest speaker Gabriella van Rij right afterwards, from noon to 1 p.m.
At both campuses, there are a wide variety of clubs that are free to join and participate in. Meet new friends, build your résumé and have fun!
Black Hawk College has agriculture, science, cultural, military, recreational and social activist clubs, as well as a Student Government Association at each campus.
If you see a need for a new club, you can even create your own club. Talk to the coordinator on your campus for more information on that process!
Jana Koch, Student Retention Coordinator, says getting involved is a great way to make friends, have fun, and develop your skills.
“Whether you join as a member or choose to take on a position of leadership, simply taking part will enhance your academic experience!” she says.
On Aug. 24, East Campus Club Day was held to help students explore their options, but there is still plenty of time to get involved!
Vashti Berry, Coordinator of Orientation and Student Life at East Campus, has a saying come to mind when she thinks about the value of participating in student life:
“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”
Vashti notes that Black Hawk College enhances and develops lifelong learners by providing student engagement activities both inside and outside of the classroom.
“Being involved in student clubs and organizations on campus can enable students to become active and productive citizens of their communities and can develop students’ social and cultural capital,” she says.
Participating in a club is a great way to experience personal growth and learn. Consider joining one or two!
