BHC artists win awards in Student Art Exhibition

ArtSpace student exhibit award winner Saeed AjidehEight Black Hawk College students recently were honored for their artistic talent in the annual Student Art Exhibition.

The juried competition garnered 64 entries with 32 pieces selected for the show. BHC alumna Tami Schmidt selected the pieces.

Saeed Ajideh of Moline (pictured) won first place with his oil painting, “Level.”

The other winners are:

  • Second place – Taylor Neyens of Rock Island – “If Walls Could Talk” photo series
  • Third place – Cheyanne Cortez of Silvis – “Vibrant Shapes” oil pastel
  • Honorable mentions –
    • Jordyn Carter of Good Hope – “Blue Distance” digital illustration
    • Jaime Mondragon of Silvis – “Wandering Eye” mixed media mask
    • Jose Morales of Moline – “Tequila 309” packaging design and photo
    • Andy Stallings of Rock Island – “Accumulation” watercolor and ink
    • Amy Van Fossen of Bettendorf – “The Heavens Declare” watercolor

The exhibit is on display through Friday, May 11 in the ArtSpace Gallery on the first floor of Building 4 at the Quad-Cities Campus, 6600 34th Ave., Moline.
