Glenda Nicke, the college’s dean of adult and continuing education, has received the 2017 Individual Leadership Award from the Illinois Workforce Partnership.

She was one of five people nominated for the statewide award.

Nicke has contributed to workforce expansion by helping Quad-City area residents enter the workforce. She has worked for Black Hawk College in a variety of capacities for nearly 40 years. Currently she oversees Adult Education, the Business Training Center, and Professional and Continuing Education.

“I’ve had 10 different job titles during my tenure, but in all of those roles, I had the honor of supporting programming that gave those with hope and dreams the opportunity to fulfill those dreams,” Nicke said.

“Some were young people who had dropped out of school. There were adults who had lost the jobs they had thought would last forever. There were refugees and immigrants who came looking to build a new life in a new place.

“Their persistence and courage help to remind us why we come to work each day,” Nicke said.

“She sets a high bar for what it means to serve our students,” said Dr. Bettie Truitt, president of Black Hawk College.

“We thank her for her dedication to the college and most of all, for her dedication to the students we serve.”
