Want to earn your GED? You can get free, professional assistance at the Black Hawk College Community Education Center (CEC) in downtown Kewanee.
For the whole month of August, drop in anytime to learn about the program and how you can pass your GED.
“This is a new school year. Traditionally, this is a time for a new beginning. And that is our specialty here at the CEC – helping people start anew and find success,” said David Harris, Community Education Center coordinator.
The GED is often a big hurdle but Black Hawk College uses the Plato program to help people overcome it.
“We utilize this computer program because it helps students target their learning and pass the test more quickly. It works,” said Shannon Westphal, BHC career advisor.
The Black Hawk College GED program recently received funds to provide official GED practice tests to students enrolled in prep classes. This speeds up the time it takes students to pass the four GED tests.
GED preparation classes are available at no cost to students who qualify. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon.
To register, call 309-854-1875 or stop by the Community Education Center at 404 E. Third St. in Kewanee.
