BHC relaunches Visual Arts and Communication program

Black Hawk College is pleased to announce the relaunch of the Visual Arts and Communication program for the fall semester that begins Aug. 21.

The ongoing state budget impasse reduced funding to the college, resulting in previously announced cost reductions. This included the elimination of two art faculty positions.

“We are disappointed to lose two exceptional art faculty members due to the state of Illinois budget situation,” said Dr. Bettie Truitt, Black Hawk College president.

“We are excited to continue the Visual Arts and Communication program this fall and into the future,” she said.

“The art program at Black Hawk College has a great reputation for high quality,” said Zaiga Thorson, art professor. “Our students are well-prepared for careers in visual arts-related fields. And most of those who transfer earn scholarships.”

Fall classes begin Monday, Aug. 21, and registration is open now. Students can look up the full complement of art classes at Black Hawk College Schedules by clicking on “Search for classes.”

“We want to make sure students interested in the Visual Arts and Communication program know Black Hawk College will be here,” Thorson said.
